Osteoma of the temporal bone squama: a case report and review of literature

Abstract Background Osteomas are benign slow-growing tumors, which typically arise on the surface of bone. They rarely from temporal bone, accounting for 0.1–1% all tumors skull. The external auditory canal (EAC) is most common site osteomas in Other extra-canalicular bone uncommon and infrequently reported. In this case report, we discuss clinical presentation surgical management osteoma squamous part A limited review literature also presented. Case 20-year-old male presented to outpatient department (OPD) with a chief complaint hard swelling above his left ear, 4 years. He had no other complaints than cosmetic concern. On examination, there was solitary, smooth, bony just antero-superior pinna, overlying skin unremarkable. EAC tympanic membrane were normal. non-contrast computed tomography (CT) scan head face 3-D reconstruction showed a16 × 18 mm exophytic, pedunculated lesion arising suggestive an osteoma. patient taken up excision under general anesthesia. removed its attachment skull using gouge mallet. base tumor drilled polishing burr ensure complete removal prevent recurrence. histopathology confirmatory compact Postoperative period uneventful, follow-up at 18-month post-surgery did not reveal any recurrence clinically. Conclusion Osteoma squama reported, definitive treatment if symptomatic. This report highlights rare tumor. suggests that unusual osteomas, prognosis good after surgery.
